Job Description

$25.00 - $30.00/hour Position Summary The Basketball Coach will work with a group of children ages 11 to 19 years in the Saturday Night Lights program to plan and implement activities based on identified curricula in a manner that motivates and engages children and strengthens their social-emotional skills. Responsibilities Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures. Plan and facilitate basketball practices, drills, and scrimmages for middle and high school students. Teach fundamental and advanced basketball skills, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and personal development. Supervise participants to ensure safety and positive behavior on and off the court. Assist and supervise students during special projects or field trips. Interact, engage and maintain open communication with parents to enable a better understanding of youth needs and how to manage the child/children. Attend curriculum/program meetings with the Program Director or relevant personnel on a monthly basis or as otherwise indicated. Attend internal and external professional development pertaining to role, including those focused on alignment of activities with educational standards. Ensure all program equipment is cared for and stored properly after use. Serve as a positive role model and mentor, encouraging youth to build confidence and healthy habits. Work collaboratively with other agency youth programs and partners. Be punctual, responsible, maintain a positive attitude, and provide encouragement to all students. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma/GED required. Associate's degree in a related field or two years of successful experience working with students in appropriate school level preferred. Previous experience playing and/or coaching basketball required. Key Competencies Knowledge of positive youth development practices. Experience working with youth (middle and/or high school students) strongly preferred. Excellent Communication Skills (written & verbal). Good Command of English Language; Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
